After the first two Info Days at the University of Ioannina and the Democritus University of Thrace – (D.U.Th.) last April and June, this time FOODBIOMES travelled to Lemnos to deliver a third Info Day on 21 September 2022. The Info Day was organized by our Partner Leader, Antonios E. Koutelidakis, from the University of the Aegean and was targeted to scientists and professionals mainly from the North Aegean Region.
The Info Day was opened by the University of Aegean FOODBMIOMES’s leading scientific team (Antonios E. Koutelidakis, Dimitris Sarris), followed by a presentation on FOODBIOMES’s vision, strategic goals and main actions, delivered by the Coordinator of the Research Infrastructure, Yiannis Kourkoutas.
The importance of Research Infrastructures and how they can function as structures to promote education, research and innovation, highlighting FOODBIOMES as an example, was presented by ΚΥΚΛΟΣ ΠΟΙΟΤΗΤΑΣ-QLCon.
Researchers of FOODBIOMES from the Democritus University of Thrace, the Ionian University, the University of Ioannina and the University of the Aegean presented the main results from their recent research projects. These projects are focused on the isolation and characterisation of new strains with probiotic properties, natural extracts as food preservatives and prebiotics, new technologies in evaluating the properties of new probiotic strains, analysis and valorization of data from whole genome sequencing, new traditional dairy products containing new functional extracts, the production of biosurfactants using galactic cultures, the development of edible packaging material with functional properties, new sustainable ways to exploit agro-industrial wastes, the exploitation of herbal and aromatic plants and the development of novel food products on a bioeconomy concept.
